Ski Tips Series #6: What You Should Know About Slope Manners
Whether you’re a beginner or an expert, are you sure you haven’t forgotten some important ski etiquette? Beyond the FIS Skiers’ Ten Rules, here are a few extra tips from Chase4Snow to help everyone enjoy a safe and happy ski season!
1️⃣ Placing Your Skis:
When taking off your skis, always place them with the beautiful base facing the sky and the bindings facing the ground. This keeps them from sliding away!
2️⃣ How to Fall Safely:
If you fall, don’t panic! Try to shift your weight backward, hug your body, and curl up to avoid hitting your head. Wait until you stop before trying to get up or move down the slope.
3️⃣ Never Ski Alone:
Don’t try to show off or take risks skiing alone in trees, on steep slopes, or in deep valleys. Always ski with at least three people—if something happens, there will be someone to help.
4️⃣ Carry a Trail Map:
Don’t get lost! Always carry a resort map and know how to read it—be aware of your location and where you’re headed. In case of emergency, you can tell rescuers exactly where you are, which is critical for a safe rescue.
5️⃣ Know Basic First Aid:
Familiarize yourself with basic first aid for injuries like bruises, fractures, dislocations, or ligament sprains. It pays to be prepared!
6️⃣ How to Help Others:
If you come across an injured skier, **do not** move them. Alert ski patrol or resort rescue staff as soon as possible.
