Shibazakura Blooms at the Foot of Mt. Yotei
Today, Mt. Yotei’s summit still wears a cap of lingering snow. With the pink moss phlox (shibazakura) and yellow canola flowers as a backdrop, at first the peak was veiled in a thin mist, but luckily, it later revealed its true face! We’re so grateful for the beautiful weather, and even more thankful for Mr. Mishima’s generosity in sharing this view, allowing Chase4Snow and fellow snow lovers to enjoy such stunning scenery. Can’t wait for the next snow season to arrive!
The Shibazakura Garden is located in Kutchan, Hokkaido. This is not a government project—the garden’s owner, Mr. Kazuo Mishima, was originally a vegetable farmer. After retiring, he started planting shibazakura so his fields wouldn’t go to waste. He carried all the rocks and gravel by himself and grew all the flowers from his own seedlings, never buying ready-made plants. Best of all, visiting the garden is completely free!
Every year from late May to early June, this beautiful scene keeps visitors’ cameras busy! Besides the pink shibazakura, the edges are planted with bright yellow canola flowers, making the whole landscape even more colorful.

Today, Mt. Yotei’s summit still wears lingering snow, veiled at first behind the shibazakura and canola flowers.

Fortunately, the peak later revealed itself, and we finally saw Mt. Yotei’s true face!
