Free SIM Card for Tourists: Easy Airport Pickup Guide
Niseko is fully covered with WiFi—almost the whole town, including restaurants, convenience stores, and even ski resort eateries and rest areas, all provide internet access. You don’t have to worry about losing connection. However, if you suddenly need to contact someone but have no internet, that’s a real headache. Most people prefer to bring their own network connection, and there are basically two main ways:
1️⃣ Pocket WiFi (WiFi Router)
You can rent one in your own country before leaving or at the airport when you arrive in Japan. This is great for groups, as everyone can share one device. The good part is you save money. But if your group splits up, the signal goes with the device—especially risky when skiing, as it’s easy to get separated.
2️⃣ Data SIM Card
Buy a SIM card and install it in your own phone for a guaranteed, stable connection. You can check in and share beautiful photos even in the middle of skiing. I prefer having less to carry when I’m on the slopes—it makes jumping and turning lighter and easier, and I can even stream live snow scenes for everyone! I personally recommend using a SIM card, though the cost is a bit higher.
3️⃣ Free SIM Card
Here’s a handy tip! Japan is promoting tourism and offers free SIM cards to visitors. Just reserve online at least two weeks before your trip, and you can pick it up at the airport after arrival. If you run out of data, you can easily top it up.
